Great idea. Not safe if you can't swim

Bought this kayak in February and first nice day in may I took it out on a small lake.. It was easy to set up .instructions were clear and it is comfortable to sit in. The lake is a small lake and the day was beautiful with a little breeze. I was comfortable and sailing a long when all of a sudden I was upside down in the water. I had a lifjacket on I grabbed for the oars an boat and started to swim to shore . a Good Samaritan saw me and hauled me back to shore.. The flip over was totaly unexpected . there was no wind and I was very balanced in the boat.. I called Intex to tell them that I felt it was a safety hazard and they said that UI am past my 90 day warrantee. If you are using this kayak make sure to have a very good life vest on

GREAT deal!

I bought two of these and I LOVE them!. I've owned (and still own) two good quality, hard-shell kayaks (an Old Town and a Perception) for many years. If I lived right on the water at a lake I would most likely prefer them to these inflatables. But, like most of us, I don't. If I want to go kayaking with my old ones I have to unhook them from where I store them on the side of my carport, take them down, hook the kayak rack onto the roof of my van., muscle the kayaks up there, tie them up, and then reverse the process when I get to the water, then do ANOTHER on-off-hook-up procedure when I leave again for home. It got to be such a hassle I haven't used them in about 10 years. If I wanted to go kayaking I would actually RENT them at the lake for about $9/hour to avoid all the work, while my own, better kayaks stayed put on the wall! I'm 64, still working full-time, and my time is limited. I'm not into the time breakdown of my kayaking experience being 2/3 setting up and taking down and only 1/3 on the water. I keep one of these in the back of my van, and if I get the urge to kayak, or if I happen to pass a place that looks like fun, I can be out on the water in about 10 or 12 minutes from turning off the van (they SAY six minutes, but that is ridiculous, unless you are on the Intex World Champion Kayak Inflating Team). I have also owned a Sea Eagle 330 for a long time, which is a very good inflatable (what can I say, I'm a Craigslist kayak lunatic), but it takes at least 3 times as long to inflate and is twice as big and hard to carry to the water as this one). Plus, for what you pay for the cheapest 330 deal, you can buy THREE of these! Plus, I think its more fun to be in 2 boats than one bigger one where you have to coordinate all your activity, especially if you want to fish. I've taken one of these out twice so far, and have had a fantastic time! The seat is too high, so (like most other reviewers) I deflate the bottom of it almost completely, and its much better. You COULD do without it entirely, but then you wouldn't be able to enjoy one of kayaking's greatest pleasures - leaning back and sunning/napping on the water. The seat installation straps give the seatback much more support, so you can instantly set if for straight-up or napping position, which is a plus over the lower-end Sea Eagle seats (the ones with support cost a lot more from Sea Eagle). You can lean the seatback back and rest your head on the lip of the rear edge of the cockpit, put your feet up and be off to la-la-land, gently rocked by the water and the breeze. I've seen complaints in reviews about the paddles that come with it. I don't understand that. I've had a lot of paddles and these are just fine by me. Maybe you would need better ones on whitewater, but you have NO BUSINESS being on white water in one of these. That's not what they are for. I've also seen reviewers talk about how easy it is to lose the skeg if it comes unattached, and how hard it is to track with one of these without the skeg on (it IS very hard without the skeg, but fairly good with it). But it is just as easy to drill a 1/4 inch small hole in the back side of the skeg just below where it joins with the base and attach a few feet of braided plastic rope to it and tie it to the rear, and problem solved! When you drill your hole, make sure to round and smooth the edges of the hole with your drill or Dremel so it does not eat into the rope and cut it. Also, make sure you drill into the fully thick part at least a half-inch in, not the edge where the plastic thins down. They would be doing their customers a big favor if it came with this hole pre-drilled, but, as I said, its no big deal. I did both boats in about a half hour. I've also seen people in reviews say they got wet. I didn't (except my feet). It is pretty stable. You also need to master the art of using kayak paddles gently so the water doesn't drip down below the lip. but you need to do that in ANY kayak. Besides, it is so small and light that it takes a very little amount of effort to get where you want to go. Maybe if it was very choppy or you were on a fast river it would be different, but again, that is not what this boat is for. I've fished from it both times. Its a little unnerving having hooks and other sharp objects around an inflatable, but not hard to deal with. (although I haven't had to fight any big fish from it yet). The plastic seems fairly durable, so I think its mostly a matter of getting my head over the idea of it. Plus, the cargo net is great for holding your tackle box. The bad points are, its not very big inside. I'm 5'8', 180 lbs and its a little tight with your legs in the cockpit (but definitely doable). If you're 6'2', you should probably look elsewhere. However, you never really HAVE to have your legs inside. It is comfortable and fun to use it with your legs over the sides, on top of the deck, or crossed. Also, it can be cramped in the fo
