User friendly and durable

The installation was fairly easy I have used it about 8 times now and I have had no issues. The bike has to be strapped in well or it can get wobbly but I think that was my error once I adjusted it it was secure. I would definitely recommend this and I will be using it all season !

Heavy-Duty Bike Rack (Cam Straps Have Room For Improvement)

Prior to receiving the Yakima HalfBack 2 Bike Rack I had been using the Saris Bones 2 Bike Trunk Rack. I own a Honda CR-V and both bike racks are sufficient. However there are several features on Yakima’s HalfBack that blow the competition out of the water. For starters the HalfBack’s pads / cushions that rest against the rear windshield provide piece of mind that the rack isn’t going to damage the glass while in transit. Additionally the frame is an absolute tank! Both the frame and the folding arms are extremely durable and I have no concerns at highway speeds. The HalfBack’s buckles are coated to ensure scratch-free mounting and the four-strap attachment made mounting an absolute breeze. The ZipStrips were very secure and the SuperCush ZipStrip cradles did not scratch my bike’s paint. The HalfBack is available in two or three bike capacity and according to the box the maximum weight per bike is thirty-five pounds.However given the opportunity there are a few things I would change. The metal buckles are exposed and although I don’t think they would hit the rear windshield if the straps were tight I don’t like taking that chance. I wish Yakima would include some rubber buckle protectors to protect my vehicle from scratches and abrasions during transport. Additionally the cam straps could be better… when I use cam straps to transport other equipment (canoes kayaks etc…) I rely on NRS Buckle Bumper Straps. The polypropylene webbing is rated at 1500 pounds minimum breaking strength it won't stretch when wet and it is treated for protection against UV degradation. Although Yakima doesn’t give specifications about the cam straps that come with the HalfBack I’d be willing to bet that they’re a lot weaker than the NRS cam straps. Finally the buckles that secure the bottom of the HalfBack rack are made of plastic. This was surprising given that the buckles securing the top of the HalfBack rack are made of metal. I’d imagine that the plastic buckles could break very easily and I’m planning to purchase better buckles. Overall the positives far outweigh the negatives. Additionally the few negatives can be solved by purchasing some better cam straps. I’d recommend this product over the Saris Bones 2 Bike Trunk Rack and I’m looking forward to many future biking adventures!

Good but difficult

I was super excited for this bike rack! It’s fits on my small SUV which is a plus but it take a lot of patients to install. It’s very sturdy once you get it on and holds 2 bikes just fine! Wouldn’t recommend if you plan to take on and off often since it’s a little hard to install it.

Yakima Halfback 2 is a very sturdy bike rack. Installation is pretty easy and quick. It is heavy so I had to have help. Fits many vehicles all sizes.

Sturdy Ergonomic Well Priced

The Yakima bike rack was a great surprise to myself and my family. We hadn’t had a bike rack before but had utilized friend’s and family’s for our bike outings.This bike rack blew us away with the upgrades and improvements over the previous models we had used. It was almost as if multiple improvements such as the strapping and locking systems were significantly better designed than the (2) other models despite it having (from what I can tell) a lower price point.We have taken the rack on a few trips now with no worry or issue. The entire process of installation is swift and easy as well.I would recommend this bike rack to those looking for either an intro or intermediate back rack for their adventures. Happy biking!

Secure and versatile.

I received this product free for an honest review. The halfback is versatile as you can see in the picture it will also work on an SUV with a few precautions mainly the top straps would rub on the back window visor. Bike was very secure when attached.

Easy to attach and quality

I received this product from Influenster and Yakima for free in exchange for my review. The instruction manual was easy to understand. My husband didn’t have problem attaching the bicycle carrier/halfback to the car truck. The bicycles were secured well. And the locking feature is big plus- no movement and the bikes are safe.
